• “Who’s Shaping the Practice of Psychology? The Power of Legislative Process” presented by Cindy Olvey, Psy.D., immediate past Executive Director, AZ Board of Psychologist Examiners
• Introduction of incoming Executive Director of the AZ Board of Psychologist Examiners, by Dr. Cindy Olvey
• “Getting Involved in Political Advocacy” presented by Ali Faraz, student, Midwestern University and Alexandra Ingram, student, Arizona State University
• Q & A and general discussion
   Lead and moderated by Gary Perrin, Ph.D. and Phil Barry, Ph.D.


12:00 pm- After the presentations: Visit legislators*, attend hearings, or observe the legislature in session

As a result of participating, the attendee will be able to: 

  • Apply 3 effective techniques for advocating on behalf of psychology and its constituents
  • Discuss at least 3 advantages of objective, balanced and open approach to political discourse. 

  • Write an effective statement to your legislator explaining your position on a legislative issue. 

  • Articulate the new BoPE Executive Director's priorities in this position.

Your input into the legislative process can be critical, especially in times of significant social change.  AzPA strongly encourages you to get to know your legislators in the Arizona House and Senate.  Don't hesitate to call their offices, email them, or come for a visit. To determine who your legislators are, you can follow the links shown below.  When you attend "A Morning of Politics and Psychology," please think about setting an appointment with your legislators to discussion your concerns about psychology and other issues.  You are likely to be impressed and surprised to find that many are interested in your views.

The program will be presented at the intermediate level.


This program is sponsored by the Arizona Psychological Association (AzPA). AzPA is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. AzPA maintains responsibility for this program and its content. 



Attendees who complete the program evaluation form will receive 3 continuing education credits.

NOTE: Full attendance is required to receive credit.  Variable credit for partial attendance will not be awarded in accordance with APA guidelines.Those who attend the workshop(s) and complete the program evaluation forms will receive 3 continuing education credits for the program.  Those arriving more then 15 minutes after the scheduled start time or leaving before the program is completed will not receive CE credit.

Cancellation Policy: All cancellation requests must be received in writing before February 26, 2018. Cancellations are credited to a future CE program. No credits will be made after that date.
