Program Description

During this 4-hour session, Drs. Akins and Dvoskin will elucidate distinctions between moral, ethical, legal, and contractual obligations. Through real-life examples of ethical dilemmas faced by psychologists seeking consultation, as well as dilemmas presented by attendees, they will illustrate and elucidate straightforward methodologies for analyzing each scenario. The aim is to arrive at solutions enabling psychologists to fulfill their legitimate professional requirements while upholding the guiding principles of the American Psychological Association's Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe why legal questions should be posed to lawyers, while ethical questions can be posed to psychologists.
  2. List three steps to take in analyzing an ethical dilemma.
  3. Identify one difference between ethical principles, standards, and guidelines.
