This program will provide you with an awareness of tools to diagnose and work with obsessive and compulsive symptoms at all levels.  You will gain a framework for understanding and effectively treating the estimated 2 to 3 million adults (and probable similar number of children) in the USA alone that have OCD and the probable millions more who have significantly interfering OCS (mild-moderate obsessive and compulsive symptoms insufficient to be diagnosed as OCD), many of whom suffer without knowing why.  

In this seminar, you will learn strategies to connect emotionally, encounter techniques that work to change family dynamics, and enhance educational milieus for children, as well as effectively treat the individual struggling to manage their OCS/OCD symptoms and common related conditions.

You will be taught to recognize the signs that suggest possible OCS/OCD, know how to assess its impact, and appropriate treatment for the symptoms, disorder, and co-morbid conditions through the use of education and cognitive behavioral therapies as well as being able to determine whether or not evidence suggests a referral to an M.D. or psychiatrist is warranted.  Finally, you will be provided with skills that can help the OCS/OCD client to engage in therapy and be more likely to continue therapeutically for a sufficient period that successful change can occur.


As a result of participating, the attendee will be able to:

  • Discriminate at least 5 key words or descriptive phrases in a client’s initial interview that suggest assessment of OCS/OCD warrants further investigation.
  • Determine an appropriate instrument of assessment for OCS/OCD based on gathered data from the initial interview/s to be later used in creating treatment goals and assessing outcome.
  • Describe at least 5 of the most common factors that often interfere with the successful treatment of OCS/OCD and select a strategy to manage and cope with each one to enhance the possibility of treatment success.
  • List and be able to explain 3 evidence-based intervention strategies for treating OCS/OCD.
  • Distinguish five of the most common co-morbid conditions often caused by and/or related to OCD.


Ron D. Kingsley is a Clinical and School Psychologist with 17 years’ experience in the public-school setting.  He left the schools in the year 2000 to expand from part-time to a full-time private practice.  He is the author of Making Sense of the Senseless (mild-moderate Obsessive-Compulsive Symptoms Unveiled) 2002, Circles: Further Insights into OCS (mild-moderate Obsessive-Compulsive Symptoms) 2009, 2017, (revised and updated 2017), and Stories from the Life of Ronnie Kaye: Monsters (2013). You can find his channel on YouTube (Ron Kingsley) where he currently has 76 of his original songs available for those who want to hear them again or share them with others. He is one of the first professionals to explore in depth and write about what Dr. John March termed “Subclinical OCD” and its insidious, often misunderstood, long-term impact on the individual, family, and community at large.  Ron began calling it OCS (mild-moderate obsessive and compulsive symptoms) in the early 1990s to differentiate it from the actual disorder known as OCD.

Dr. Kingsley (he prefers Ron) received a Master’s Degree in School Psychology and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Brigham Young University.  He completed an APA approved internship at the Des Moines Child Guidance Center in Iowa before moving back home to Arizona with his wife and family.  Ron is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist and has been a licensed psychologist in Arizona since 1988.  He continues in full time private practice today. 

Aside from his clinical practice, Ron has contributed articles to the Communiqué (Newspaper of the National Association of School Psychologists) and a local independent paper on parenting issues.  He has also lectured and shared his areas of expertise often over the years at the invitation of his Alma Mater, as well as local community colleges, churches, and for Arizona mental health professionals sponsored by the AZPA. As an artist and singer-songwriter, his presentations tend to be lively, musical, heartwarming, funny, pertinent, entertaining, practical, and informational.
