President
Emily Cabezudo, Ph.D.

Emily Brown Cabezudo, Ph.D. is an experienced licensed clinical psychologist and consultant. For the past six years she has had a private practice in Tempe, Arizona with her husband, who is a medical physician and both are interested in global integrative health. Dr. Cabezudo has specialties in health psychology, assessment, behavior change and has participated in research focused on the evaluation of emotional and learning disabilities of children and adolescents. She has researched the issues of professional women having chronic illnesses, specifically fibromyalgia, and interventions to increase their quality of life. She is trained in EMDR. She received her degrees from San Diego State, University of Virginia, James Madison University and Walden University. She has been a member of APA since 1986 and of AZPA since 2003. Dr. Cabezudo has served as Chair of the 2010 AZPA Convention, served on the Disaster Committee, Continuing Education Committee, Ethics and Legislative Committees. She has served on Governing Council as AZPA Treasurer and is now President Elect. Before coming to Arizona she worked as a School Psychologist, a Licensed Professional Counselor and as a Senior Editor for Riverside Publishing Company. Emily has a long history of community service and is an accomplished Artist and cook.

John Stapert, Ph.D.

Dr. Stapert maintains a private practice in Glendale, Phoenix, and Gilbert, Arizona, providing clinical services to late adolescents and adults. In addition, he hold privileges at Arizona Heart Hospital and Phoenix Baptist Hospital, and provides consultations at two skilled nursing facilities in Scottsdale. He has served on the Governing Council of AzPA as Professional Practice Representative and as a member of the Academic and Student Affairs Committee and is a founding member of the Arizona Psychology Training Consortium’s Board of Directors. While on that Board, he have held various offices, including President, and am currently the Director of Residency Training.

Past President
Jeff Thomas, Psy.D.

Jeff Thomas, Psy.D. is a Clinical Associate Professor of Fire Science at Arizona State University.  He teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses in fire and human behavior and in fire service administration.  He also chairs or participates as a member of graduate committees.  Dr. Thomas has also been a member of the Goodyear Fire Department for six years.  He is currently assigned to Emergency Management.

Jeff has been a member of AzPA for 15 years.  He has previously served on the Governing Council as AzPA Secretary.  He has also served as Chair of the HIV/AIDS Committee, Chair of the Legislative Committee, and Chair of the Political Action Committee.  Jeff is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Arizona Psychological Foundation and as a member of the AzPA Convention Committee.

Dr. Thomas has a long history of working with graduate psychology students.  Before coming to ASU, he held the rank of Adjunct Associate Professor of Educational Psychology at Northern Arizona University.  He was also an Adjunct Professor at the Arizona School of Professional Psychology (now Argosy University).  For the past several years Dr. Thomas has been a regular presenter to interns and residents participating in the Arizona Psychological Training Consortium.

Academic Representative
Rene McGovern, Ph.D., ABPP

Dr. McGovern is a professor of Clinical Psychology at Argosy University  and adjunct associate professor of psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Prior to coming to Arizona in 2009, she was a professor of neurobehavioral sciences at A.T. Still University’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in rural Missour. She is a clinical health psychologist and is on medical staff at Scottsdale Healthcare. She has served in leadership positions in the National Association for Rural Mental Health (NARM) and the Society for Behavioral Medicine (SBM) and since coming to Arizona, the AzPA Committee for Rural Psychology.

Ellen Williams, Ph.D.

Licensed in 1975, Dr. Williams is currently in private practice in Tempe, Arizona. She focuses on cognitive-behavioral therapy, eating disorders, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, grief counseling and stress reactions. Dr. Williams has been actively involved in the leadership of Arizona Psychological Association for many years. She is a former President and Treasurer as well as past committee chair and current member of Disaster Response Committee.  In addition to the Disaster Response Committee, Dr. Williams currently serves on the Continuing Education and Legislative committees and is the coordinator of Key Constituent Psychologist project.

Communications Representative
Mark Rohde, Ph.D.

Mark’s private practice in North Phoenix focuses on the challenges of children, adolescents and families.  Additionally, he is a principal of the Adolescent Substance Abuse Program, where he supervises doctoral students. 

He has a B.A. summa cum laude from Arizona State where he also obtained a master’s degree, was a C.S. Mott Foundation Fellow, and a recipient of the ASU Medallion of Merit award.  Mark   completed additional study at Oxford and NAU before finishing doctoral studies at the Union Institute and University. He completed a three-year program at the Post-Graduate Institute for Family Therapy. 

Mark is a diplomate of the American Board of Assessment Psychology and has a Certificate of Proficiency for addictive disorders from APA’s College of Professional Psychology.  He has been recognized by the AzPA for Distinguished Contributions to Psychology and was the recipient of the Max Jones Research Award from the Arizona Association of School Psychologists.  Mark is a former chair of AzPA’s Provider Issues Committee and is a founder of notMYkid, Inc.

Diversity Representative
Elicia Nademin, Ph.D.

Dr. Nademin earned her Ph.D. from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. in 2007 and has worked with clientele of highly diverse backgrounds, from the standpoints of socioeconomic status, cultural and ethnic background, and problem-focus. She has worked in a number of settings, including community clinics, college counseling center, correctional facilities, and hospitals. Dr. Nademin completed her clinical internship at University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. At Temple. In July, 2007, Dr. Nademin relocated to Arizona and assumed the position of Assistant Professor in the Clinical Psychology doctoral program at Midwestern University. While there, she completed her  postdoctoral residency at the MWU clinic and joined the doctoral program in Clinical Psychology as a faculty member at Argosy University in Phoenix, AZ.

Dr. Nademin serves as a psychologist for the Home-Based Primary Care program of the Phoenix VA Health Care System, working primarily with a geriatric population extending mental health services to veterans with chronic illness who may otherwise not have access to those services. She also maintains a part-time private practice, committed to extending behavioral weight management services for weight loss and psychotherapeutic services to clients presenting with a range of mental health needs. She is highly passionate about helping clients feel empowered in achieving and maintaining their personalized goals and emphasize extension of multicultural services in English, Farsi, and Spanish.

Daniel Schulte, Ph.D.

Dr. Daniel Schulte currently serves as Associate Director and Director of Training at Arizona State University Counseling Services, where He has been a member of AzPA since 2002 and was the co-chair of the 2011 Convention Committee. He serves on the Continuing Education Committee, as well as on the boards of the Arizona Psychological Foundation and the Arizona Psychology Training Consortium.

Graduate Student Representative
Koren Ganas, M.A.

Koren is completing her doctorate in clinical psychology at Argosy University/Phoenix. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago. After completing an intensive, year-long advanced yoga philosophy and teacher training course in 2005, Koren left a corporate marketing career to pursue graduate studies in psychology. Inspired by the positive changes she saw in her yoga students, she became interested in the intersection of psychology, neuroscience and medicine. She seeks to understand the interplay of mind and body as it relates to physical and mental health and overall well-being. She completed her dissertation on participant’s phenomenological experiences in a Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course. Her ongoing research interests include integrated medicine, mindfulness based treatment approaches, and Eastern Psychology. 

Koren’s clinical work has focused on children and adults with developmental disabilities, neurological disorders and chronic health conditions.  She has provided assessment and therapy services for children and families in medical and school settings, and has extensive experience providing medical family therapy to children with special healthcare needs. As well, she teaches MBSR to individuals seeking relief from a variety of medical and psychological issues.

Legislative Representative
Patricia I. Johnson, Ph.D.

Dr. Johnson is a clinical psychologist is private practice in Scottsdale. Her practice focuses on labor and employment issues, corporate consultation, forensic and independent psychological evaluations, and treatment of workplace injury/trauma and adult populations. She has served in multiple volunteer positions within AzPA including as President. She represented Arizona on the APA Council of Representatives and has served as Federal Advocacy Coordinator since 1990. In that role she serves as liaison to Arizona’s Congressional offices. She has also been actively involved with State legislative issues, served as Chair of the RxP subcommittee for two years, and is a current active member of the Legislative Committee. She has been the elected Legislative Representative to the AzPA Governing Council continuously since 2005.

Marci Harris, Ph.D.

Representing Membership on the governing council is a privilege for me. The opportunity to be a part of the Membership Committee and the Early Career Psychologist Sub-committee will be a pleasure to inspire our seasoned and young colleagues to become involved in our organization.   I have enjoyed being a participant in our professional community for over 20 years. I am grateful for becoming involved in leadership in my local professional organization early in my career. This participation has been invaluable to me personally and professionally. I have served as President of Scottsdale Psychological Society, Communications Representative on AzPA governing council, Director on Arizona Psychological Foundation Board, and volunteered as a mentor for the Consortium. Encouraging our colleagues to become active members of our organization and supporting and sharing our professional experience with early career colleagues is exciting and important to insure our professional presence in our Arizona community.

Professional Practice Representative
Philip Barry, Ph.D.

Dr.Barry's professional career as a neuropsychologist, therapist and program director has spanned 3 states and several healthcare organizations.  He practices in a busy clinic in Mesa, dividing my time between psychotherapy and neuropsychological evaluations.  I’m also on the faculty of the MIHS Psychiatry Residency Program and Chair of its Research Committee.  After spending several years specializing in TBI rehabilitation, Dr. Barry worked for several more in the Arizona Long Term Care System.  His professional interests include chronic pain, geriatrics and PTSD. 

He has served on the AZPA Legislative Committee and the Arizona Neuropsychological Society’s Executive Committee.   I have spoken before state legislative committees and served on The Governor’s Council on Spinal & Head Injuries, the Brain Injury Association  Board and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Professional Advisory Committee.

Southern Arizona Representative
Jennifer Dvoskin, Psy.D.

Dr. Dvoskin received her doctorate from the Clinical Psychology program at Argosy University, Phoenix in 2009. She currently is a Clinical Program Director for Child and Family Resources, a Tucson private non-profit organization. In addition, she hae a small private practice in Tucson and works at the extended campus for Gatehouse Academy. She specializes in working with adolescents as well as individuals with substance abuse problems. Dr. Dvoskin is a member of  the AzPA Membership committee.

Northern Arizona Representative
Megan Gavin, Ph.D.

I am a licensed psychologist at Northern Arizona University’s Counseling Center in Flagstaff.  I have been an AzPA member since 2005 and a member of the Academic and Student Affairs Committee from 2004 – 2007.While in office, I plan to give a voice to northern Arizona in terms of this region’s needs and concerns. In addition, I believe the dissemination of information about AzPA and AzPA-related activities will be an essential component of this office. Through such information sharing, I hope to recruit new members from this region of the state, as well as further create a network of psychologists that will work together to enhance the services we offer, whether as individuals, regional groups, or a state organization.
