Marilyn Stromsness, Ph.D.

Profession Title:  Licensed Psychologist, Certified EMDR Therapist

Specialty(s):  Trauma and PTSD, Anxiety or Fears, Depression, Sexual Abuse-Victim and Offenders, Relationship Issues, Addictions, Adult Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders, Chronic Pain or Illness, Native American Indians, Domestic Violence, Loss or Grief, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders, Sexual Issues, Impulse Control Disorders, and Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Stromsness is trained psychodynamically, which means that she looks at how ones past affects ones present life. Her interventions include helping patients change negative self beliefs so they can change their behavior. She uses Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as a psychotherapy approach to help patients reprocess old negative life shaping memories, traumas, losses, and fears that get triggered in present day life. The results of these triggers may lead to disturbance in daily functioning at home, work, and in relationships. EMDR therapy seems to link up and reprocess stored negative memory networks to more adaptive information networks for optimal outcomes. She uses EMDR therapy because it seems to reduce the time one needs to spend in therapy and it rapidly helps people resolve issues that interfere with their life and their relationships. Disturbing incidents become less distressing. After EMDR therapy people report a greater reduction or an elimination of their symptoms. Dr. Stromsness is a seasoned licensed psychologist whose own lived experiences allow her to have empathy for those who struggle to outgrow their pain and change for good. She is certified as an EMDR therapist. See for more information.
